Real time traffic overlay

Friday, November 24th, 2006

Warning: This post will be french focused! :-)
Following the launch today of a web site providing real time traffic information ( V-Traffic ) I’ve just played a little bit with J2memap and added the ability to overlay these traffic informations.
Seens nice at a first view, but not very accurate in my own town (Bordeaux), while Paris seems to be fine.
V-Traffic offers already a mobile version, but in wap. With this version, you will have all the features of J2memap: ability to be postionned through a GPS, usage of other maps (Google/MSN, Yahoo,Ask.com) ,

satellite mode, etc….

Note: this is an experimental version…If you are interested contact me.

The right business model for mobile data applications!

Friday, November 17th, 2006

Three just announced yesterday that they launch a flat rate data offering. This mean unlimited data transfers. A good news for all J2memap users (and others). No need to cache megabytes of data to preserve your subscription!

GoogleMap Mobile now support GPS (on one phone?)

Sunday, November 12th, 2006

Yes, it seems that there is versin available for the “HelioDrift” that support GPS. The news cames from the Google Blog. So applications like J2memap will loose one of their key differenciator in the future. This was expected, but the real issue that GoogleMap (on mobile) is still closed, and does not provide any external API….

Found a great Ruby On Rails hosting provider

Friday, November 10th, 2006

After some try , thanks to dennis Baldwin recommendation, I’ve found a great RubyOnRails provider, with a terrific customer service. It’s the first time that I see a customer service answering correctly to emails in less than three minutes (and I mean REAL emails, no robots) even for the basic hosting…

They helped me to set up a small server side, the prices are very very competitives (and guess that I won’t last forever?), so if you are interested, take a look at RailsPlayground.com

Microsoft answer to Google Earth

Thursday, November 9th, 2006

Virtual Earth 3D has been released yesterday by Microsoft, and it looks definitively good. There are plenty of analysis and reaction on the web, so I just post a few links here:
Google Earth Blog
Microsoft Releaase Virtual Earth 3D (Beta)

The bad thing is that it’s totally linked to IE7, so you need to download it to use VirtualEarth3D….
