Want to participate in J2meMap project and future extensions?
Interested by creating cool mobile mashup, or by helping this nice project?
We are looking for some help/ideas in the following areas:
- You have some mashup ideas that you would like to implement?
- You want to participate to the project and you are a server side developper (Ruby On Rails?)
- You have some j2me knowledge
- Or you just want to help us on some various task (like managing forum!)
Just contact me (thomas.landspurg at gmail.com )

I have some ideas of mashup (but not able to implement them).
- Geolocalized Hotspot Detection :
(Assuming j2memap can work offline and already have FON maps loaded as a KML file) when the GPS detects the proximity of hotspots areas, the mobile automatically starts scanning for WLANs with the FON client for S60 and SIP accounts are automatically registered. When living the area, the WLAN scanning ends unless there’s a close hotspot. But the energy saved by not scanning WLAN is lost when using the GPS, so not sure it is really useful. There would be an alternative with CellID but can’t find a KML map with all cell towers.
- Geolocalized Movies Schedules :
The user has a KML file with a list of movie theaters for a city for example and when needed it synchs to get last movies schedules.
- Geolocalized Events :
The user is subscribed to KML (or GeoRSS) streams and can get events for an area with informations like schedule, reviews, recommendations, etc.
- Geolocalized Transport (Metro, Bus Tramway) Schedule :
Thanks to a KML file containing the list of all metro and bus stations, the user could get the next comings, like it is possible with this widget, with the GPS capability that would allow to find closer stations.
Perhaps there could be also a mashup that would find gas stations with the lowest price for a specific area. But the difficulty is to find fresh, precise and reliable data.
There are a lot of other useful mashup to do.
I would also be interested into having precise and reliable KML maps of different POI like movie theaters, bakeries, markets, fast-foods restaurants and food automated machines opened at night :), etc. Wondering how to create social maps.

Hello Kael,
Great feedback!
Your first mashup idea might be the most difficult to do technically, as there is no way to prorgramatically execute the described scenario within j2me.
The others are great idea. GeoRSS is already partially supported, and I will add more, but there will be two challenge:
- find a reliable data, that’s true
- provide an easy to use UI to manage these various mashup.
So I like these mashup ideas, but do you have any idea on where to find good data sources?

Hello,
I have experience with server side programming in Java and MySQL and would be interested in joining the J2ME Map project. As an example see my Website or my PinTheGlobe Mapplet for Google Maps.
